Every year, Claire’s divides its floor sets into eight seasons. The focus of a floor set is to exhibit a single “trend” group. Centering on one theme, each contains the most fashion- forward looks and products in the store. In my time as a product designer for Claire’s, I developed and contributed to over 12 different trend groupings—including creating textile prints and designing full product ranges.
For the first time in 2009, Claire’s created a comprehensive “Back to School” product line. I created the print and designed all products associated with the program: notebooks, pencils, backpacks, wallets and tote bags. The back-to-school products became an international best seller for the company. For the following year, I created a tattoo-influenced design composed of three coordinating prints mixed and matched to create a more diverse product line. Beyond just the roses and bird artwork, I hand developed a scrolling font as well as a vintage tattoo font.
In an effort to expand our presence in the teen market, we began proposing Claire’s exclusive products for female pop stars such as Taylor Swift and Katy Perry. I had the pleasure of acting as creative lead for the Katy Perry proposal. This involved creating a series of prints to be used on tech accessories, such as iPhone cases, as well as handbags, stationery and hair goods.
